Q. Why is Northern Hardwood a better choice for Hardwood Flooring? A. The forests of Northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan provide a shorter growing season. This makes for a tighter grained, harder, more stable floor. Q. Why buy domestic hardwood flooring? A. When you by flooring from Onlyhardwoodfloors.com you are purchasing flooring from forests that have been harvested using sustainable forestry practices. You do not have to worry about the origin of the flooring or destruction of the rain forest. Q. What is the best way to clean my new hardwood floor? A. Follow the manufactures care card included with every bundle of flooring, which includes: Dust mop with a micro fiber floor mop as needed, spot clean with a neutral cleaner.
Q. Can I use water to clean my hardwood floor? A. Never use water or wet mop a hardwood floor! Use a damp towel to clean up spills if needed.
Q. What is 3mils of Polyurethane and does it differ from other companies? A. 3 mils refers to the thickness of the ware layer of finish on the flooring while other companies may talk about the number of coats with today’s technology the build up and thickness of the protection is important. You can have 10-12 coats for finished and only have 1.5 mils of protection.
Q. What is Aluminum Oxide and what does it do for my floor? A. Aluminum Oxide is added to the polyurethane in the second and the final coat to help resist scratches this makes for a harder more durable surface.
Q. Will I have to refinish my hard wood flooring, and how long will it last? A. You will have to refinish your hardwood flooring every 10-15 years to keep the finish looking good. This depends on the traffic patterns in the home. If the floor shows wear sooner all you have to do is deep cleaning the floor with a neutral cleaner and apply a chemical treatment to soften the finish and apply 3-4 coats of waterborne finish.
Q. Can my prefinished floor be sanded and refinished? A. While the aluminum oxide is very hard for ware protection it can be sanded off and the floor can be refinished. Your solid hardwood floor can be sanded 4-5 times giving you a floor that will last the life of your home. When comparing to engeneered flooring you may not be able to sand the engineered flooring because of the thickness of the top ware layer and that floor may have to be replaced sooner than you wish or can afford.
